Looking for CREATIVE ideas for a 40th ANNIVERSARY PARTY for my parents!!?

They were married in the 1960's, right? Do a 60's themed party. Have an oldies cover band or DJ with 60's music. Karaoke is also fun even though it isn't era appropriate. Serve kitschy period food and have everyone dress in their very best 60's garb.

If you have a place big enough to hold people, cater easy food like Chinese or Italian.  Rent a jukebox to play lots of their favorite music.

we actually did that for our parents.  we had a bbq.  invited everyone they were friends with and related to.  for anyone that couldn't attend we just asked if they would please send a card for a card shower.  Some people actually ended up sending money which was nice for my parents but not what we'd intended.  we did have some past and present photos and other type stuff.  and then for the people that could make it, we just had the usual bbq food and played outdoor games.  we had a blast and my parents were very surprised.
