Looking for Ideas to cut cost on Food at Disney?

We are going to Wal-mart to get food for the hotel room, and drinks. I am bringing Crystal Light packs for our water bottles and have a few ideas of food that I can cook inside a microwave. I have heard to eat kids meals, which is a good idea. But I want to make it cost effective.

  1. Disney world or land...we have been to both and took a backpack with random snacks in it.  I am personally a water drinker and water is heavy to carry.  I found out quickly that you can either buy a $3 bottle of water at Disney OR you can go to any of the restaurants or kiosks and get iced water in a cup (which I prefer anyway) for free.  As for food, the sit down restaurants had kind of hefty portions and we found out after one meal that we would order two meals for the three of us and share.  That way we weren't overly full trying to enjoy a ride and there was plenty for my husband, my son and myself to eat.  As for our backback of snacks...we packed snacks that were not all carbs so that they'd last us longer and tide us over better.  We packed things like string cheese, nuts, beef jerky, those special K protein packs you mix in water like crystal light and protein bars.  We also rented a stroller for $8 (although lots of people brought their own and did the same thing).  My son rode in it some, but when he didn't, we pushed our backpack around and were able to carry lots of stuff with no hassle.  Finally, they have very good coffee at the park, which my husband and I wanted first thing in the morning and at night when it got chilly (in California, not Orlando).  The lady at the coffee shop in the park told us to keep the receipt and we were able to get free refills all day with our receipt.  We didn't have to keep up with the cup because health code required that they give us a new one each time.

  2. IF YOU WANT TO GO TO DISNEY YOU HAVE TO PAY THE PRICE! YOU WILL ONLY BUY LUNCH AND MABY A SNACK...SO YOU WONT SPEND A FORTUNE! ****

  3. since it is so hot here now and hopefully there is a fridge in the room, i would get  things for sandwiches and maybe some microwavable spaghetti-o's. also get some fruits. makes a great snack. if eating inside disney look for the meal deals. it gives you a side dish with your meal and a drink which could be split between 2. good luck and have fun.

  4. You don't say how many children or how many adults.  Is it Disney in CA or where?

If it is two adults then eat in the restaurant and get two meals.......then everyone can share.

Get some Kaiser or hoagy rolls and make sandwich's....freeze two bottles of water to keep the food cold while you are walking around.......get some grapes.......yogurt sticks (the type you squeeze to eat).......buy a bag of the apple slices (they are cheap at Wally World).  Buy one of the silver bags for keeping frozen foods frozen or hot foods hot.......fits right in a back pack.

My other half is an executive who fly's to Dallas weekly......I make his meals in the new Glad Steam Bags...and freeze them...I do like Roast beef and Gravy......Beef Stroganoff.........Skinless and Boneless chicken thighs with natural juice......I buy fresh pasta (doesn't mush out when frozen) boil for 1 minute and wrap it in the wax paper that can go in the microwave and set it on top of the meat.....I do pork snitzel......I make him chicken thigh or turkey thigh sandwiches on buttered rolls for his flight and lunches....I cut them in half....so he doesn't have to eat a whole one at once......I parboil fresh brocolli and fresh green beans.......rinse them in cold water.......let them air dry.....and then freeze in the steam bags...I make home made fruit pie with less sugar and freeze slices in the sandwich bags...........I get a large bag of spring mix salad.........put it in a zip loc bag.........and then on top of each salad in the snack bags I put his home made salad dressing that he likes.  I will bake his cookies sometimes and put two to a snack bag.  I do the orzo rice with a can of cream of mushroom soup......I get the Uncle Ben's rice pilaf micro bags.  I slice strawberry's and put them in cool whip for a treat.  He doesn't get the treats every week........too fattening.......I send small boxes of raisins with him........he is a very finicky eater!!!!

When he goes back to his room at night........he decides what he would like and nukes it......he puts it on defrost for 3 minutes and then nukes in on low for up to 4 minutes.  I bought him some plastic ware and also some paper plates.

He can certainly afford to eat at any restaurant that he feels like it.......but it is time involved and then it is not wholesome plain food with quality ingredients.  Plus we save a lot of money too........compared to dining out bills!!!!!
