Question:

Looking for Relatives (Leahy or Phalin)?

My mother's family orginally came from Ireland. My great-great grandparents (who were born in 1810) were the first generation to come to the US. Some of them came from County Cork. I think it would be neat to know if there were still relatives there. Any information would be great.

  1. Hold on a minute - County Cork is a very big place, and to compound the issue, the place they 'came' from was quite possibly Queenstown, now known as Cobh, which was a common departure point for America. Try to find out more.

The chances are you will find people with the same names in County Cork, but these might not be your relatives.

Phalin - I would say that's Phelan or Whelan, often pronounced like 'wailing'. That's actually a very common name in the South-East.
