  1. "Cheap" apartments and "...preferably under $600..." is almost a contradiction. Rental units are quite expensive in Ottawa so your chances of finding a good, clean one are limited.

    However, try this link http://ottawa.kijiji.ca/f-housing-apartm...

and see what you can find. The cheapest one I've been able to find on Kijiji is http://ottawa.kijiji.ca/c-housing-apartm...

    Start from there, I guess...

  2. Ottawa apartments are quite expensive especially ones near Carleton.  Try

    www.usedottawa.com

they have listings there from private renters that are not as costly as the big corporations.

But if 600$ is your limit try looking in hull/gatineau if you have a means of transportation rent is much cheaper over there than in Ottawa.

    Good luck

  3. $600 is pretty low for a 1 bedroom. Student housing where people share a place are pretty cheap. Likewise dumps are pretty cheap. Nice places though tend to be expensive in Ottawa. I pay $2753/month for a 1 bedroom and when I was looking the cheapest I found that I considered nice was $1600 and it had no parking.

I did find this one though http://www.mls.ca/PropertyDetails.aspx?v... it is $600 and they have a unit in the same building for $700. Unfortunately it is in Vanier which is not the best area and is also far from Carleton.

http://www.mls.ca/PropertyDetails.aspx?v... is $700 but probably better for you.

Everything else goes up to over $800 pretty fast but here is the rest of the MLS listings http://www.mls.ca/PropertyResults.aspx?M...

  4. $600 for a nice 1bdrm in Ottawa near Carleton U!!?? Good luck finding that without sharing. Even nice bachelor apts are going for $700+

    You can try looking here

    http://www.rentersnews.ca/modules/search...

  5. you'll either have to bump your rent up to 700-800 if you want to find a one bedroom. Otherwise, sharing a house/apt is the way to keep the rent down.

If you have to stick to your budget, look for places south and west of Carleton (Nepean, Ottawa south)..you'll find something within your price range, but you'll be taking the bus/O-train to classes.

good luck and enjoy your time here!
