Looking for a Thermal Cam for Paranormal Research?

Question

Hello can anyone help me out with finding a Thermal cam for Ghost Hunting. The research we do is completely free of charge. We would like to continue completing free investigations but cannot afford this very important tool. I have been told that Fire Departments use this thermal tool and get upgraded so many years. Where does the older thermals go. Please help me out with information to who I can contact. Thanks Eric

I don't understand why you would use a thermal camera for paranormal investigation.  Are you operating under the assumption that ghosts are warmer or colder than the air around them?  If that's the case I am curious to know what your source of information is on this because I have seen no data anywhere that would suggest such a thing.  So you really don't need a thermal camera.

The Fire department angle is likely a wild herring. Most departments  dont need graphically clear pictures, so they have more basic models...is there hidden fire or not?. Some Urban search and rescue teams do have top of the line stuff, and special police units as well.

While great for T.V, inexperienced use of a FLIR is likely to cause you more distress than assisstance in an investigation.

You'll notice that "cold spots" never seem to show up on Taps, despite there automatic thermometers getting readings.

It is useful to see hwat you or others have touched..like the bedspread hoax on the queen mary.

The only real use of a thermal cam is to show that what you are seeing is not human as a human would give off heat.

I see on taps where they see a light coming towards them in the dark , mention this light and then disregard it and go in another direction without saying, oh, it is the sound guy or something.

The thermal cam also makes many reflections of heat so it is not really important except if you have a hunt where you think the building owners are sneaking around trying to fool you.

if you have the cash, you can get a FLIR camera. Most used equipment is donated to smaller departments such as old military tech is handed down to different law inforcement agencies. Some is wholesaled to the public at auctions.

Believe it or not, you might be able to get money from a research grant right from the federal government. If you word it just right, this would be something science could benefit from. The grant starts at $6,000 and has a $150,000 ceiling. Get a teacher and/or a professor to help you with a proposal.

Hey Eric, I too have done a little research. I am afraid all the ones I have found, even old used ones are still very expensive. Keep a look out on ebay and keep asking around. If you find more than one, let me know!..LOL! Good luck.
