Looking for a Version control application for CAD files?

Question

I am looking for a Version control application that is apt for CAD files. Checking in and checking out is needed. Some flexibility in terms of adding descriptions and generating reports is also needed. Anyone with some knowledge on this please make suggestions or lead me to where I can find the best solution.
