I am currently living in the united states and want to move to a country that has great surf and is relatively cheap to live. When i say safe i just mean i dont want to go somewhere they hate americans. I feel that the united states is going downhill and I no longer want to be a part of it.

  1. So you don't want to be an American Idiot....

Assuming you have an offshore income or an internet job you can take with you, you have a number of options.  If you just have savings and no career/language skills that would translate to a foreign economy, you wont last too long.

Cheap places: Morocco, Indonesia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua. All are relatively safe.

Bali, Indonesia. Yes, Indo is Muslim but  Bali is Hindu. Stay on Bali and you should be fine. Many pros are buying houses there. And if you are in a Muslim country, remember they have very strict laws. Theft is more rare than Mexico because the penalty is getting your hands chopped off. But if anyone does steal from you, let them have it, because they can stir up an angry mob like they did recently near Java.

Nicaragua. Uncrowded beachbreaks, but no spots so epic that it will become Costa  Rica. This is where I would go.

Costa  Rica, safest, large population of Americans, best surfing in central America, gets crowded with people just like you.

  2. Tahiti. its a beautiful place loves to have parties, lots of land for homes and you could find some great surf spots.

  3. Good luck. If you find it, let me know, I may want to vacation there. However, as bad as things get in this country, it is so much better than the other places I have been, I'll take my chances. here.

You said currently living in the US, so I suppose you don't come from here originally. I would suggest that you go back to where you started, like they say in the Wizard of Oz, there is no place like home.

As for me, I'm US born and bred (and yea, it sounds corny, but it is real) Lots of us put our lives on the line for this country, and lots of really great guys died for it. So, if you don't like it, change it at the ballot box, or leave it!

  4. i know its still in the us but Hawaii is a great place. or you could go to Teahupoo -http://www.surfline.com/mag/features/tea...

  9. Mexico is dodgy now, especially if you've never been before.

Costa Rica is the new Nicaragua, and its great. Also, its the most stable country in South America. Two of my favorite places to go are Nasara and Tamarindo.

I reccomend Tamarindo. Its about 5 hours from NY, 6 hours from LAX, and two and a half from Miami. Flights aren't too expensive, and neither are places to stay. You fly into Liberia and from there, its a two hour drive. There's lots of land available, empty lots and built houses that are pretty cheap.

There are 5  beaches within 25 minutes. An hour and a half north are Ollie's Point and Witch's Rock, awesome places to go for a couple days. You need to charter a boat, but its totally worth it. Don't be suprised to find overhead barrels, either.

The people are really chill, too. There's not much hatred toward Americans, 'cause a lot of them are down there. Then again, whenever I travel I say I'm from Hawai'i, 'cause that usually fends off questions and hatred of the American government.

  11. definitely Costa Rica but go quick, its getting pricey!

  12. Mexico, costa rica, australia, new zeland
