Not sure where to post this question.

I've been pounding my head against the wall, trying to remember the illustrator of an ABC Board book with delightful black and white (I think) illustrations that were either done in a woodcut or scratchboard style. The animals were all "atypical" for a toddler book...maybe a boa instead of a bear, a lemur instead of a lion. Any clues? I THINK the name started with a W, but I may be mistaken.

  1. This might be Barbara Cooney.  Cooney has sadly past.  My first school had tons of Cooney books. Her name is synonymous with scratch-board.  She won a couple (or more?) Caldecott medals.  Look her up and see if any of the books look familiar. We had a black/white scratch-board book about a young juggler that was out of this world.  I think that she was waaaay ahead of her time.  If it isn't her, give her a look/read!!
