  1. I have heard a popular conception that one dog equals 200 people in terms of bather load.  I don't believe it but common sense says with all that fur in the pool you are giving your pool more to work on!

No such thing as a chlorine free pool.  I don't care what anyone is trying to sell you, salt, ozone, UV, ionized pools all need chlorine or are fully chlorinated pools in order to function properly and safely.

Properly chlorinated pools operate at 1-3ppm with 5 max.  This will not make your dog sick, or you for that matter.  What will make both of you sick is swimming in a pool without chlorine or low levels of chlorine due to lower sanitization of the water.

If a pool is properly maintained for humans it will work well for dogs.  Your filter will be required to remove more hair than usual which will require more frequent cleaning to maintain.

Get a good test kit that will test for free chlorine, combined and total chlorine, pH, Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness and Cyanuric Acid.  Maintain your pool and your dogs will love it.

One note.  If your dog uses the pool as his water dish, you will have a problem.  Provide clean and fresh water for your dog to minimize pool water drinking.  Pool water is not for human or animal consumption, chlorine is the least of the problem, murtiatic acid, soda ash, Borax, algaecide are all added to pools for maintenance purposes.  These cannot be removed by boiling and consequently most all earthquake or disaster preparedness books say don't drink your pool water.

Good Luck.  2 Dog Pool Owner who swim in a chlorinated pool year round.

    You're welcome!!

  2. The only alternative sanitizers are bromine and baquicil. Even if you were to use ionization or ozone you still need to have some chlorine in the pool. If you keep your chlorine at proper levels your dog will be fine.

  3. i doubt any company sells (or makes them at all).
