It is time to buy my 8 month old son a new car seat. He has outgrown his infant carrier. My son is 21 lbs and 31 inches long. Can anyone give me some advice on this? Thank you very much!

  1. Toys-R-Us has a great selection of car seats that can go up until they are 100 lbs. They have all different styles and are not to expensive. Look on the internet they have a great selection online. Good luck.

  2. Get a Britax Marathon. It is the safest and can be used by your child up to 65 lbs now. They are a little pricey, but well worth it. I have used other car seats and this one is by far the easiest to use and has the highest safety ratings. I dont think you would find anyone who has one and doesnt love it.

  3. Please don't go with Safety1st/Dorel/Eddie Bauer! First off they wont fit right in your Highlander and second they aren't good to 100lbs as a carseat, they no longer work as a carseat at 40lbs and must be used with a seatbelt, at which point most little ones are too young or small for a seatbelt.

I went with the Britax Marathon as my main choice. It's easy care (every piece of it goes in the wash) and installs easily in almost any car. It also has awesome safety ratings. The Marathon, Boulevard and Decathalon are all pretty much the same except the Boulevard has extra side-impact protection and the Decathalon has a moveable crotch piece which is great for boys. All of these seats hold from 5-33 or 35lbs rear facing and hold 20-65lbs forward facing and have an awesome Versa-Tether strap to keep the carseat from moving around when rear-facing. (PS also the only carseat I have been able to 100% trace the manufacturing to the US)

If you want something for taller kids and with similar safety ratings, the Sunshine Kids Radian80 is great, but the straps are closer together so this seat works best for tall, skinny kids. This seat has the same rear-facing capabilities but holds up to 80lbs forward-facing.

Please remember the safest seat for your child is the one that fits right in your vehicle, fits your child, is easy for you to use properly every time AND keeps your child in a 5-point harness as long as possible.

    Happy hunting!

  4. I'm very happy with my Safety 1st convertible carseat.  It's good up to 100 pounds.
