  1. You need to be more specific, i.e. rough age group.  Mulligans of Poolbeg Street is an old Dublin pub.  The Porterhouse is for a young crowd.  Whelans is good if you want music.  If you are out on the Northside Gibneys of Malahide is a good place.

Want to add some info which might help?  R u looking for somewhere that locals hang out or somewhere touristy with Irish music playing or somewhere Irish people go with Irish music playing?

  2. Depends on what you're looking for really...something traditional, or more modern? Personally, for something in between, I like Whelan's and the Bleeding Horse, both on Camden St, fairly central.

Edit: Okay, then maybe try Bruxelle's, on Harry St, just off Grafton St, city centre. It's a bit of a rock/metal/alternative place, I think. Paul Weller has been there (I think he was actually smoking there, despite the smoking ban) and the lead singer of Pantera was there a few months ago. There's a statue of Phil Lynott outside it. So that should give you some idea of what it's like. Otherwise, try the link below. I had a look at the site and it's pretty good, with user reviews and whatnot. Enjoy your stay!
