I took a 4 hour cruise on rhine from Frankfurt to see castles and I can't remember the company's name that ran the cruise. We rode on a bus to the boat and ate lunch at a local restaurant.

  2. My best guess is Köln-Düsseldorfer!

If you saw alot of castles left and right of the Rhine River you probably didn´t start in Frankfurt but in Bingen though? Or Wiesbaden or Mainz? Frankfurt is on the Main river and it takes some time to get down to the Rhine from there.

Check out their website to see if the boats look familiar. They are the most popular and biggest cruise line in that area:

  3. I don't think you can start in Frankfurt on a boat. You should take the regional train to Mainz or Bingen, which leaves many times an hour from the main train station. Start in Mainz or, a bit cheaper, take the train to Bingen and start there. Wow, I love this boat trip, I do it every year: Go from Bingen all the way to St Goar. Or stop in Bacharach on the way. You will love it. It's unreal - castles everywhere. By the way, the region where all the castles are is called "The Middle Rhine" or "Mittelrhein" in German. Frankfurt is not considered part of the Middle Rhine, but rather is part of the region of Hesse or "Hessen" in German.
