Looking for a decent hotel near San Jose Costa Rica airport?

Hi. We are arriving around noon into San Jose and our Sansa flight leaves the next morning. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel at less than $100, in walking distance from the airport? An added bonus would be one also in walking distance from San Jose sights/food.

I'm not sure what the area is like, maybe walking distance isn't reasonable, in that case short cab ride.

  1. the airport and downtown are quite a bit a way from each other.

There is a Country Inn at the airport ( They are owned by Radisson) that is reasonable and has a courtesy airport shuttle.

  2. First of all, you need to know that the airport is not in San José. The airport is at Alajuela...thats about 40mins from San José.

You can find several hotels at San Jose, and some other few at Alajuela.

Near the airport there are some, but really expensive...around 4 or 5 stars...

If u come to San Jose, u can find some others, decent and not so expensive.

  3. stay at the hampton inn

there is no need to be next to san jose

at the hampton inn there's the major casino called the fiesta

and there are other places around that you can go to

  4. Seriously don't stay at the Hampton Inn - why would you travel to a foreign country and then want to stay at a sterile american chain hotel?

I like the Orquideas Inn 10 minutes away from the airport in Alajuela. I've stayed there 6 times and have never been disappointed. The hotel is on an old coffee plantation with nicely manicured grounds and trails to walk on. They have a nice pool and jaccuzi and a great Marilyn Monroe theamed bar.

A great buffet breskfast is included with the ost of the room and is served out by the pool in the mornings.

They offer a shuttle service to/from the airport for $10 for 1-4 persons. An you could take a taxi into the main part of Aljuela for about $3

I've always stayed in one of the "roadside rooms" which are laong the main road that runs by the hotel property. It gets a fair amound of noise form the trucks heading down the hill in the mornings but it never bothered me too much.

  5. I stayed at a place called the Catalina, it was about a 15 to 20 minute taxi ride from the airport. I can't remember how much it was but it was a decent stay. Also watch where you stay in San Jose because some areas are sketchy and can be dangerous.
