  4. Hondas and Nissans are pretty dependable as they get. Try going to a car auction to get one at a good price. just be sure to take a mechanic with you to check the engine and stuff before you bid on anything. http://www.mycarauctionreview.com has info on the best car auction lists if you don't know where any auctions are located in your city.

  5. I have a 2003 Ford Focus.  Great mileage, great dependability and nearly 96,000 miles on it.  I would buy one again.  The little devil has good power too in the hills and mountains.

  6. I have an acura integra 00....great on gas, only 4 cylinder but pretty quick (get a 5speed!)....And acura/honda are the most dependable cars out there as far as longevity.

  7. Best suggestion is to take a good mechanic with you if you're buying a car privately or if the party you're getting the car from will allow a test drive then take it to your mechanic for a thorough check before buying.

I did this with my Ford Focus I bought a few years back. It's a 2002 Ford Focus and I've NOT had a bit of trouble with it. Also gets 30 mpg and that's pretty good too.

Also, look at fuel efficiency too, with gas prices going up all the time. Get the car with best mileage rating you can.
