Question:

Looking for a digital camera, what do you use?

I'm looking for built in flash, a good battery life, and the ability to take video with audio (not long stuff, just little clips and stuff)

Also, if I could get a high ISO that would be lovely.

If you don't know a camera like like what do you use? The perks? The bad points?

Thank you!

Ideally under $350

  1. Just for your reference, high ISO will mean a noisy (grainy in the film world) picture.  Most P&Ss don't do well above 200 or 400 ISO.  If you don't mind the noise, then you're ok, since most of them have that high ISO option.  But, if you're looking for quality, look at the lens itself, not the ISO.

Image Stabilization will be worth it.  Most cameras have it, just make sure the one you pick does.  It'll let you have a slower shutter speed, which means you don't need that higher ISO, but still have a clear picture.  But make sure it's not digital stabilization...that'll be just as bad as using a high ISO.

I personally like Canon's line of cameras.  If you look on DPReview.com, PopPhoto.com, and StevesDigicams.com, they'll have reviews of most of the camera models out there, along with a full listing of their features, and strengths and weaknesses.  But always make sure you go into a store and hold the camera in your hand.  See if you like how it feels.  I've known too many people who came in and said, "I want this camera!" then hate how it felt.

(small edit) I currently have the Canon G9, but it's a $500 camera, $450 if you find a good sale. (end small edit)

    Good luck!

  2. I Use A Nikon D40, 470$

however, a cheaper point and shoot camera is an S5IS

it has eight megapixels, 12x zoom, 2.5" inch screen and

    much more in that package.

  3. I have a Fujifilm Finepix F10.  It does what you want, but it's discontinued.  Try buying one of the sequels.  I like it because it will take pictures up to 15 seconds long.  Back when it came out, it was rare for compact digital cameras to do that.  Also it goes up to ISO 1600.  That was rare back then too.  The only thing that really sucks is it only has a 3X optical zoom.  For wildlife photography that's not really enough.  For astrophotography it's not even enough to shoot the moon.

  4. I guess for what you are looking for a Sony would be right for you!

Something like a Sony Cybershot DSC-F828.

8.0 Megapixels and it works well in the dark plus you can record Videos. You can put both CF and SD Cards.

  5. the nikon s600. its a 10mp camera with optical image stableization and face detection. a 4x optical zoom but it has a 28mm wide angle lens witch is great for group shots or landscapes. it does the video with sound and its nice and small. its high iso is up to 3200. and it usually goes for 299 but it goes on sale frequently. and if not that one the the nikon s550. it has a 5x optical zoom. same megapixels and its iso is up to 2000. it also has something called smile shutter. when it detects a smile it automatically takes the picture. both great cameras.

  6. I have a sony cyber shot. They have great prices on those at Best Buy and Circuit City.
