Question:

Looking for a farrier in the Springfield/Urbana area. Just need trims no shoeing does anyone know if anyone?

  1. Try craigslist.org.  Or, if you are up to it, teach yourself.  There are plenty of videos on YouTube that deal with farrier work, it isn't that hard to figure out.  Our farrier wouldn't work with our vet when our mini horse had feet problems, so we ditched him and had my dad learn trimming.  Even on the minis, he did a good job, and on our bigger horses he did even better.  It took him a few tries to learn, but eventually he could trim them just as well as our farrier did.  Barefoot horses can withstand one or two bad trims, so I say to go for it.


  2. If you are having a problem phone or visit your vet and ask him to give you a list of the local farriers.

    Vets always have very good contacts with associated trades ( farriers, dentists, chiros etc)

    also check with other owners and vets.
