The sites I have been on are just trying to sell stuff. I am looking for a site where you can discuss and get some help in discussing autism and just some plain support from people who are in my shoes and know what we are going through as a family. Please help.

  1. www.autism-society.com would be a good starting place to find something local if you're looking for face to face support.

MySpace has a group for people/families dealing with Autism. It's really active and I'm sure you could find a lot of support there if you're not necessarily looking for face to face support, but then you might also find some people from your area.

  2. There is a very active message board at this website: http://www.autism-pdd.net/forum/default.... . It is mostly parents of children with autism, and they are very friendly and helpful. Good luck; there are lots of great websites out there.

    Other Autism Resources:

"Ten Things Every Child with Autism Wishes You Knew" - http://www.ellennotbohm.com/ten_things_a...

"Positively Autism" (Free newsletter and printable lessons/activities) - http://www.positivelyautism.com/

"Teaching Tips for Children and Adults with Autism" by Temple Grandin - http://www.autism.org/temple/tips.html

    Website of Paula Kluth, Ph.D. - http://www.paulakluth.com/autism.html

  3. try wrongplanet.net  im a member there as well ( its free registration)

  4. I recommend a few sites:

    http://www.autism-society.org/site/PageS...

Go to the Autism Community Page, select ASA Chapters,

Find a chapter, and contact a chapter local to you, some groups/states might have message forums which can be helpful by keeping you informed of local workshops, networking with parents in your area and understanding special education regulations as they pertain to  your state.

    http://www.autismspeaks.org/

Autism Speaks also has a very active message forum. You can find the forum under their community tab.

    www.autismspot.com

This is a new group, just starting.

Other options for finding a group:

http://www.nichcy.org/states.htm - if you are in the states, check out your state resources.

Search through Yahoo groups for "autism" and your state (or country).

http://specialchildren.about.com/ - they have a very active message forum, not necessarily specific to autism, but when you're dealing with developmental delays don't get hung up on a label or diagnosis.
