Question:

Looking for a good camera.?

I used to have a Kodak digital camera that took pretty good pictures and I liked it because you could put it in your purse and take it with you anywhere. I am looking for a new camera because I have dropped this one a little to much. I looked at the Nikon D60 (which a friend of mine has and loves) but I don't know if I want something that large. For the price ($599) it seemed like a steal! Anybody have any ideas on a good camera? I like the display speed to be pretty fast (i.e. taking a picture and the image appearing right away so I can move onto taking the next picture). I also like it to be sleek and compact if possible. I like enlarging pictures too so the quality has to be pretty good. Any ideas?

  1. The olympus stylus is an awsome camera it's small sleek durable and it takes great pics!!! Theres alot of photoshop things that go with it too!!! So its great for enlarging pics!!! It only cost me like $275

  2. I recently bought a Nikon d60, and I love it.  The size takes some getting used to, but it's worth it.  It takes rapid fire pictures, records them instantly, and allows action shots to be easy to get.  Also there are several lenses available.  Only disadvantage is that the auto focus needs AF-D lenses, but other Nikon lenses work, but have to be manually focused.

  3. Well any P&S camera will be sleek and compact, but you cannot expect it to perform as well as your friends D60.  If nothing else a P&S camera have sensors that are over 15 times smaller than the Nikon D60 and have inferior lenses when compared to any DSLR.

Therefore you will have to make a choice.  Excellent enlarged photos with little or no shutter lag or a compact, sleek camera that fits in your purse ... you cannot have both.

  4. Whatever you get don't buy it at any of these:

  5. The best point and shoot IMHO. Is the Canon g9. It is compact but not a subcompact. 6x zoom,12 M.P. Has an auto function so you can start taking great pictures your first day. It has very little shutter lag and can take the next picture really fast. But not as fast when using the flash. It also features full manual control, you can learn basic photography on it. I have a g9 as well as a camera that is like the D60.

The G9 is discreet, you can carry it in a jacket pocket. The DSLR is a big camera that draws attention,I go places from time to time that I don't want a $1,000 camera hanging over my shoulder.

  6. I recommend the canon sd850. It is inexpensive, ultra-compact and takes great photos for its size. Bear in mind that ultra-compact cameras are never going to be as capable as the larger sized digital cams, but for carrying around in a purse or pocket, the sd850 gets great reviews across the board.

The Nikon D40 is even cheaper than the D60, and there is not that big a difference between the two, other than the resolution. Plus, if you buy the D40 you can get an extra lens for the same cost as the D60.
