  1. What your talking about is boxing. But I seriously suggest you take a martial art that involves both your hands and your feet. If you limit yourself to just punches your cutting your offence in half. A kick is 10 times more powerful than a punch and 5 times more painful. You should search styles online and see what interests you.

  2. a person should work on his weakness, but when in fighting your strategy and tactics must base on your strength. Example, no point for a fat, big, heavy short guy with short legs to learn taekwondo, he would be be wasting his time.

Different art sometime tailor for different body types.

For arts with good hand strikes. go for boxing (need to learn how to defend against legs and use of elbows.), southern kung fu styles, like southern praying mantis, wingchun...and etc. There are a few other styles that are good with hand strikes. You may need to learn some ground fighting as well.

a lot of styles use both hands and legs, kung fu is one of those that divides into " southern fists and nothern kicks" where southern styles use lots of hand strikes and very little and low kicks and the northern styles use lots of high and acrobatic kicks and some hand strikes.

  3. Boxing

    Pencak Silat from Indonesia

    Kali/escrima/arnis de mano from Philipines

The stick and knife drills from escrima and silat transfer to empty hands and really improve hand speed and reflexes.

Thai Boxing is also very good.

Don't discount an art with kicks though, a high kick may look impressive but requires flexibility, I would never use one in a real fight, and takes a lot longer than a low kick, but a low kick can be very useful

  4. I am a full time amatuer MMA fighter, if you are not working your foot/leg movements for just arent comfortable with it then Martial Arts isn't for you.  Just remember that it all takes lots of work and you just have to put in the time to train.  My adivice if your good with your hands stick with good ol' Boxing.  You can find Boxing gyms everywhere.  I take Muay Tai for striking with both legs and hands but I have a great boxing coach for my stand up game. Hope this helps.

If you are strong with punches only then just try boxing.  If you are really looking for an MMA career, then keep up with training your legs.

  5. A good fighter needs to work on his weakness's. you should want to work on your kicks. for that i recommend kick boxing, Tae Kwon Do, and Any Northern style shaolin kung fu.

  6. As other people have said if you are not good at kicks then work on it and become better at it. Try to find a style that uses as much kicks as it dose punching. Like Mauy Thai, Kick Boxing, Savat. They should teach you as much about kicking as it does punching.

  7. Kenpo is an awesome self defense art with lots of hand techniques.

  8. im gonna assume youre not looking to enter any mma tournaments so you arent really gonna have the greatest and most well rounded game ever.. boxing is good for working with your hands obviously.. if you find a good kenpo karatye school that would be good.. it uses the feet but only as much as its practitioner is capable.. it tends to tailor the art to the individual and not the other way around...

ps boxing is a martial art.

  9. well boxing is a real obvious one that comes to mind.  another might be wing chun (although personally i prefer boxing)
