Hi it is me again and i am really sorry for not explaining this in my other review when i was asking about what gun i should buy. I am 13 and my father told me a .243 is a good cal. for me so I would like to stay along thoughs gidlines. I have also shot my dads gun before which has a really big recoll so i am kind of used to it but i would not perfer a gun like that for me. And i do understand that buying a gun from the internet is usually the worst idea so i was looking for more of a online store that also has a store that i could go and look at so i can feel more comfortable buying my gun. I have also looked at walmart and found a pretty nice gun there but I still want to go to a store and get a better feel for it. The gun is a Savage 11FYCXP3 .243 Win Youth Bolt Action Rifle Scope Package and i was wondering if anyone has any comments on this gun (good or bad) that way i know what I am working with. Thanx again for all the coments and i hope this review is more clear than last time

  1. 1) You don't buy a gun through the internet. Firearms (unless sold by a private individual) are sold through FFL dealers. If you get one through the net, it would be like a craigslist ad or something, not a retailer.

    2) Don't buy any firearm from WalMart. Period. Go to a dealer.

    3) If you choose to buy at a gunshow, make sure it's from a dealer, and it's new in the box. Trust me.

Savage makes a decent rifle. They'll outshoot a Weatherby out of the box (I've shot sub-MOA groups with new Savages, with no tinkering). And the .243 is an excellent cartridge. I'd hesitate to take on anything larger than whitetail, unless you're good at headshots.

  2. A .223 should do great. No kick, but lots of power. Go to gunbroker.com, or gunsamerica.com and they are gun auction sites.

  3. Savage makes good firearms.

The 11FYCXP3 chambered for .243 Winchester should serve you well.

Yes, it is best to handle and examine a firearm before you (ahem, I mean you and your dad) purchase it.

  4. I agree with your father's choice of caliber, .243 is an excellent for a young girl. Just make sure to have good shot placement, no one likes a gut shot deer. As for the gun, I say go for it. Savage has been known to make very good and accurate guns for their price range. It's kinda funny, but the main complaint I hear about the savages is that people think they're ugly. So i guess it is a testament to the quaility of the gun when that's the major complaint. You might want to invest in a better scope though. Normally any scope that comes on a Walmart package will be utter c**p.

  5. YES Savage is an excellent choice.*

  6. Looks like most points were gone over but I want to remind you that you should get a gun wihtout a scope because the scopes they come with are ususally junk and won;t hold a zero so you will need to probabaly buy another one anyway. If you put a $30 scope on a say $500 gun you have a $30 gun basically since that is a major weakpoint.

  7. My 9yr daughter shoots that one.

Neither she nor I liked the scope that came with it.

So we switched it our for a better one and I put that on her 22.

    We go thers at wal-mart

If you get it there then make sure you check the box for all parts and paperwork. Also you will need to re sight it in as wal-mart does bounce them around a bunch.

If you buy at wal-mart and you have any problems with the rifle you will have to send it to savage where if you buy it at a sporting good store and have a problem you can take it to them and have them help in getting it resolved (they may have have to send to savage or they may be able to fix on the spot).

  8. yes, 243 winchester is a good caliber for deer and while it will recoil some, it is probably the lightest recoiling rifle that is good enough for deer

Savage makes a very economical and solid rifle.  Choosing a youth model is smart, as it will probably better fit your shorter arms.  However, in my opinion, the scope that comes with the 'package' is not very good at all, the crosshairs tend to shift after shooting for a while.  I'd buy a savage without the scope, and then get get a good scope.  A truely good scope is going to cost about $250 but will pay for itself over time.  Heck, price out a savage without the scope,  rings and base for mounting a scope, and then look at a $50-100 dollar scope, you'd probably save money that way, and the scope would be better too.

  9. Bass Pro Shop

    Cabela's

Gun shows are a good place to look, and pick up good deals.

  10. check jgsales.com and samco.com and aimsurplus.com

  11. I see very few people actualy answering your question........... YES The Savage 11FYCXP3 is an excellent choice. Savage has a very good reputation for making quality rifles. Buy it and dont second guess yourself. Its a quality product......   On Internet gun purchases. You can not buy a rifle from a dealer via the internet. You can order one but it has to be sent to a local gun dealer in your area. Gun dealers have a FFL Federal Firearms Licence... They can do the paperwork to transfer it to you........
