My husband and I have decided to think about adopting and we want to know where to start looking? Any help would be great. We have never talked about it before because we were hoping to have our own but we are happy to adopt now.

  1. blah blah

  2. There are different avenues for adoption and each one has its benefits and drawbacks.  I suggest you start researching all of them (domestic, international and foster-adoption) very thoroughly and make the decision that is best for you and your family.

The internet is an okay place to start, but as always, it's best to not take anything off the internet as the gospel truth until you can verify it.

I like Adoptive Families magazine, which gives some great information.  There are other books written about the adoption process and also from the perspective of adoptees that are great resources.

    Good luck!

  5. My mom would be able to help you out with that, because I was adopted, && as long as your a good couple && you have the finances then you'll be great, BUT you must take a class and everything that teaches you how to be a great parent & basic things. You know you tell them you want a boy/girl around this age & all other things. You won't adopt right away, they will place a kid in your care for awhile, like me, and the child , if old enough, decides rather they would like to stay there. && I decided I wanted to stay. If they're old enough to go to school, you have to enroll them & everything else. & I think of my parents now, as my real parents. I talk & see my sisters, but thats optional.  Uhm I hoped this helped && if you would like to speak to my mother, via computer, I'm sure she wouldn't mind talking to you and your husband about this. She herself is thinking about adopting a little boy.

  6. Oh for goodness sake....forget about those who say "second choice" its c**p. Sorry, I dont usually get angry.

First off you want to make sure that you do alot of diggin on this before you even look into doing it for real. Contact your local social services for more info too. Just keep your eyes wide open though as the adoption industry in USA can be very "money money money". I however are from the UK and if you are then the process ISNT as vile.

    Good luck :)

  7. Good for you.  When you are ready, talk with an adoption social worker.  They will be able to answer your questions.  Also, when you do decide what type of adoption you want, If it is a private adoption, meet with several different agency's until you find one you are comfortable with.  Because they will be with you until the very end.  You want somebody that you can talk to and be at ease with.  It will make the whole process seem easier.

  8. So it's your second choice? Sigh.

Just type "adoption" into yahoo search and lots of information will come up.

  9. When my husband and I decided to start looking into the adoption process for the same reasons, we researched the net and studied books before we came to our final conclusion. You have made an Awesome choice. Now, you want to decide which type of adoption you want. Go to your local library and request adoption books. I got adoption for dummies, it was a big help. Then check these websites out. http://www.adoption.org/ This is a great website because they have over 400,000 adoption web pages and info about adoption, out the wazoo. For  all the adoption lingo heres where to look it up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adoption

For any other questions on adoption all you have to do is put adoption in your search bar you'll come up with thousands of hits. Good luck and God Bless.
