  1. Is this going to be a laptop or a desktop?

    Specify that first.

Moreover, there are plenty of laptops out there that can do those types of activities, as video editing, dvd burning and playing some decent games like half life or counter strike, as they just need a fast / good enough processor for the video editing and dvd burning and a non-outdated graphics card.

Something like so would work nicely:

Mostly in a laptop what you want to look for is a good processor like dual core or dual core 2, or and AMD, as for the RAM you want minimum of 2GB as all the current laptops and desktops come with Vista and 2GB is needed to Run Vista Smoothly, as for the Graphics Card, to do what you want for video editing and dvd burning you only need a default or factory card as they both don't require any type of pixel Shader and if they do then most of the cards come with a low version of shader like v2 or so (current version is 3.0). If you really want to go into hardcore gaming type of cards then any version of GeForce 7 or 8 or 9 Series in a laptop will do your job and some of the high end 6 Series will work fine as well. and for ATi any of the x1400 x1600 1900 2000 Series will do fine.

So that is for the laptops

If you want to get a desktop do ask I can get some good ones which are pretty decent in that price range.

  2. You want a computer to do video editing and gaming you need more than $700 to run everything.  Close to $1000 is what I would think.  If you have a old computer you could get by with $700.  You just need to replace parts.  If you don't feel like learning it or you don't have an old computer you can count on spending $1000.  There's just too much to talk about here.  Just check out the smaller computer stores.

  3. alright go to new egg and look for stuff with these specs:

    CPU/Processor - intel e8400 wolfdale

MB - just an intel 775 socket with 1-2 PCI express 2.0 x16 slots, and memory/RAM standards of 800 or better and 8 gb or better capacity

Graphics Card - get like a PNY 512 mb 8800 GT

    Memory/RAM - get about 2 gbs of ddr2 sdram 800

power supply - get about 550-600w of maybe a Rosewill if you can make sure it has SLI support, and is like 12VX or something like that

case/dvd burner - get what ever u like won't really matter, just be sure ur dvd burner is SATA not IDE or w.e else, make your tower a mid atx tower
