Unique places with a comfortable, interesting atmosphere to take someone to. Places that have "WOWED" you. No budget limit but I'm not looking for "fancy" places either. I'm open to ANYTHING, from artsy-bizzare. Thank you all in advance :) (Areas in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Long Island and Staten Island please)

  1. Yes, I agree that PDT is a cool place.  Milk and Honey is cooler, but I can't help you get in there.  Here are some other places to check out:

    1) Angel's Share is another place that has amazing cocktails and a great, interesting atmosphere.  It is above an asian grocery store and only allows enough people in to sit, so no standing at the bar.  Really cool look to the whole place.

    2) Burp Castle is a "quiet" bar.  In order to pay respect to the beer monks if the crowd goes beyond a conversational hum, the bartender sooshes everyone!  There are also awesome murals of monks all over the walls doing things like getting eaten by a whale and such.  The best part: the most delicious belgian beers. Yum!

    3) Marion's Continental -- this little gem of a restaurant is decorated in mismatched kitschy 40's and 50's decour.  They have a restaurant on one side, a bar down stairs, and another loungey bar on the right side.  Each spot is fun and interesting in its own way.

    4) Since you like Village Vanguard, I'll suggest two other great jazz spots (both no cover!).  Jules on Saint Marks place has live jazz frequently and is low key.  You can get dinner or just drinks there and enjoy a little background mood music. Also, Louis 649 is uber cozy and so nice to hang at.

Have fun, all of those are some of my favorite spots!

  2. Rubys is a cool place

  3. There's a really great cocktail bar in the East Village called PDT it stands for Please Don't Tell, it's suppose to be like a speak easy but of course you can Google it and find it right away or look at City Search.  Anyway, the only way to get in is make a reservation and you can only access it by going to the hot dog diner (50's style) that's next door.  You walk into the hot dog diner, find the phone booth to your left, go into the phone booth, pick up the phone and a person will answer and then you ask for permission to be let in and/or give them the reservation name.  It's very elegant and cozy.  When you go into the bathroom there is a Code of Ethics hanging up, easy to get kicked out of this place.  They make exquisite cocktails and you can order food from the hot dog place next door!
