I moved to Miami Fl, and I live in Coral Gables. I am looking for a recommended, good and affordable daycare for my kids. It's very important for any parent to know their children are in good hands so I hope you can help me. Thanks

  1. Start by contacting your local Resource and Referral Agency.  The National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (naccrra) maintains a database of child care providers nationwide.  Here is the link:

    http://www.naccrra.org/

On the home page, at the top right of the screen you will see a header that says: Find Child Care in Your State.

Child Care Aware is affiliated with naccrra, and claims to have a more advanced search.

    Their telephone number is 1-800-424-2246.

Find out if the provider is registered or licensed (licensed is better) and ask if they have NAEYC Accreditation (a lengthy process usually lasting one year which subjects the facility to numerous random and unannounced inspections and evaluations).

Also, ask everyone you see with small children.  Familiarize yourself with the main providers in town so the names don't sound foreign to you when you get an answer like: "Well, my cousin took her kids to Cozy Cottage but my neighbor said..." (for example!  I don't know if there is a Cozy Cottage in Coral Gables Miami, FL).

Finally, here is a link to A Parent's Guide to Choosing Safe and Healthy Child Care (4 pages):

Best wishes, and above all, rely on your "gut" mama instinct.
