Looking for a nice area to have a picnic near the Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls

I am planning a trip to Niagara Falls later this month and will be visiting the Butterfly Conservatory. I would like to have a picnic immediately after and wondering if there is a nice area around there to picnic by the water? ALSO can anyone tell me how close the Butterfly Conservatory is to the Niagara Falls downtown strip (where all of the wax museums, etc are found)?

  1. Well, it is surrounded by Parks as the above poster stated, as well as Brock's Monument, just a bit further down the road. It has tons of picnic tables, tennis courts, a playground, a splash pool for small children, and beautiful trails along the Escarpment. Oh, theres also the Glen which is almost right across from the Conservatory. It offers many scenic trails down into the gorge where you can have a great view of the rapids. All of these places are a good ten minutes drive via car or People Mover down the Niagara Parkway, from Clifton Hill and all the touristy attractions, Enjoy your trip.

  2. the surrounding area is a place to have a picnic, there are gardens and tables..etc everywhere... there are botanical gardens right next door.

    its like 10 min away

  3. Well if you continue down Niagara Pkwy. you will find about 15 down a beautiful little town called Niagara on the lake. Towards the end of town there is a beach area and above that beach is a wonderful area to picnic and there are shops and just plain beauty. the conservatory is about 10 minutes away from the city. and another 15 to Niagara on the lake.

  4. I grew up in Niagara Falls, NY.  One of my favorite places to go as a child was Dufferin Islands.  I can't necessarily vouch for what it's like today since I'm now 39 and haven't lived there for 20 years, but this website should help you plan your trip.

It has links to the Butterfly Conservatory (under the Garden Trail link) and Dufferin Islands (under the Nature Trails link)... among other areas for you to consider.

The Butterfly Conservatory is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from Clifton Hill - where all the wax museums, etc. are found.

The other post is right, Niagara-On-The-Lake is lovely.  It is a quaint town of shops, restaurants, etc.  It's the last town along the Niagara River before it opens up into Lake Ontario (thus the name).  I took a friend of mine from Brooklyn once.  Upon coming up on the lake, she gasped in awe.  I guess for those that have never seen one of the great lakes... the mere size is a surprise.  It's a beautiful area and a gorgeous drive to get there from the Falls.
