You can do a pattern called Chicken Scratch. It's just doing an X in each of the white squares for a couple rows.

My grandmother made me a tablecloth, napkins and an apron from this pattern on dark green gingham fabric when I was little. She and most of the items are gone. I just have the apron left and can't find the fabric that matches the color exactly. But still love the apron.

Have fun making the tablecloth.
