Looking for a place Jan 1st. But i am coming to look in the area September 15th, looking for an apartment and a job.

Im looking for something cheap under 1100, i realize this is hard to find but ive looked at some listings ... something small, probably gritty, but i would like to be surrounded by cheap restaurants, bars, thrift shops. And ultimately, want it to be relatively safe walking in and out late at night, for a city.

Any specific places.... to look when i come, like SPECIFIC streets or areas please. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

  1. You may want to consider the Mission area.  From 16th to 26th along Valencia, Gurerro, Delores, and South Van Ness but avoid Capp street!

The tender-nob [border of the tenderloin and nob hill] Polk to Leavenworth Sutter to Sacramento.

Both of these areas while gritty and urban have a great mix of restaurants, thrift shops and bars.

For $1100 the best you will get is a studio or a roommate situation anywhere in the city.  Check out craig's list for specifics.
