  2. there are tons of free online resources, surprised you didn't run into any yet! i am one of the nutrition chefs used on many diet programs today, most recently balanced diet (balanceyourelements.com) and if you join programs like this you are able to just log in have the program do all the work for you including selecting meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner and then have it print you a shopping list for grocery store and the recipe with the nutrition facts! there are too many features to list, but check it out and make sure you are excersizing too!

    -balanced diet

    -wieght watchers

    -spark peopke

    -diet.com

  3. Epicurious.com is a great answer to this. There are tons of recipes that are sorted into categories like "healthy" or "vegetarian" and they are rated by users so you know how tasty they are. If you stick to dishes that are listed under "healthy" I'm sure you can really cut down. The Kaiser website has low-fat recipes as well. I'm also attaching a link to the calorie calculator so that if you find a recipe you want to try, you can determine how many calories it has. You should also take a look at the Overall Nutritional Quality Index, which rates foods on a scale of 1 to 100 based on key nutrients, and will help you decide which snacks and foods to incorporate into your diet healthily. Lastly, e-diets has menu plans. Also, you might want to take a look at Allure's total makeover plan - it's really fun to watch the progress of the groups of women they choose over the year, and it gives you a realistic and healthy idea of the time it takes to lose weight and the lifestyle changes it takes (including tips on how to eat at restaurants, etc.)

  6. Hi! I just lost about 20 pounds by doing three things:

    1. Portion control (use a smaller plate - it makes your portions look bigger, and it tricks the eye. Then make yourself wait 30 minutes before allowing yourself to get seconds)

    2. Better choices - like 2 servings of vegetables instead of carbs, or a couple of hershey's kisses (from the fridge - yumm) instead of a bowl of ice cream. I indulge my sweet tooth bit by bit so I won't "fall off the wagon"

    3. Exercise: even if it's only 15 minutes at a time, it helps! I started by just doing cardio, and then added some arm strenghtening exercises because muscle burns fat even while you're resting.

Here are some recipe sources (you don't have to shop at whole foods, just take the idea and go to your local supermarket to make it work your way!)
