Question:

Looking for a product to get rid of rusty dishwasher rack??

Our dishwasher is almost 11 yo so we do not want to invest in anything expensive to fix the rust problem, because probably soon we will need to buy a new one.

However, we need to do something for the time being because those areas leave stains on plates.

The rust is in several corners where the rack wires meet d/t worn out protective wire coating in those spots.

Is there a product that could be applied in those places? Something like a glue/paint/etc. Even if it means fixing it for a short time would be fine.

Thank you.

  1. I have had the same problem and what I did was find some plaseic or rubber hose, slit it down the middle and wrap it around the wires on the rack. The dishes sit on the "new wrap" instead of the rusty areas. Make sure you get as small a diameter hose as will fit and make the length as tight as possible so the don't get 'washed off' by the water wash.

  2. Run an empty load with CLR.  Just put it in a cup or two right side up and they will fall over in the wash and saturate the rust.

Run another load without any kind of dish detergent after so you dont make yourself sick.

  3. The problem you have is that the plastic coating on the wire rack has deteriorated.  It's time for a new dishwasher.  The only short term repair would be to apply epoxy to the cracked areas.  Be sure the rack is dry before applying.

  4. they sell cans of rubber, its made to replace the rubber  that comes on the handles of pliers and other tools--you just dip it and it coats the handles--you might try that

  5. A  good scrubbing  with  hot water and  S.O.S  pads. Then rinse  really well and  wipe   dry.
