  1. Try Etowah Valley in Hendersonville.  It is semi-private, but you can get on.  They have good package deals if you want to stay overnight in their lodge etc.  Not what I would call cheap, but great layout (27 holes) and always in good condition.

  2. Well, you don't have very many options (much to my dismay). I've been up in this area for about a year now, and the golf pickings are slim.

There is the Cherokee Country Club in Murphy, but I haven't played it. I've heard it's a decent track, though.

There is Mill Creek Country Club in Franklin. It's a fair course. Actually, the course itself is about a 6 or 7 on a scale of 10, but the rest of the course (clubhouse, putting green, grille, etc...) is a little below average. If you just care about the golf, I'd play here. Their twilight rates are pretty cheap and are all you can play.

If you want to come up the road a little bit more, near Bryson City, in Whittier, NC (exit 72 off US-74) is the Smoky Mountain Country Club. Their prices are a little bit higher, but the course is a bit nicer, and the grille is awesome!!!

Finally, the best golf around is either Maggie Valley Golf Course (fairly pricey but nice course) or Waynesville Country Club Inn (better prices and solid course).

If you really want a treat, make a trip out to Asheville and play the Grove Park Inn's course. The twilight rate is $85 ($150 in the morning) and it's a phenomenal course!!!

    Have fun!
