Question:

Looking for a shotgun?

I'm just starting to hunt this year. I know somethings about guns but not too much. I'm looking for a nice shotgun that I can use for hunting deer with slugs but I also want to use it to shoot skeet. Could I use a shotgun with a rifled barrel to shoot sporting shells out of? If not What kind of gun should I be looking for?

  1. Like DCA said, use rifled slugs ( the rifling is cut into the slug itself, and you'll have no need to change out barrels.

Check into Mossbergs, Brownings and Remingtons. Get a pump if its your first weapon.

  2. people say mossberg, but i've had major problems with them, with slugs. What was happening has my lightfield slugs(best out on the market) would break in 2's or 3 's by the time that it got 100yards down, i bought a 870 express and got a tarhunt barrel and i've NEVER had a problem,

so if i'd be you i'd get a 870 and get a rifled barrel to go with it

EDIT: see the thing w/ smooth bore shotgun barrel w/ slugs are that your not gona get accuracy for sh*t, if you get a smooth barrel dont expect to shoot farther then 50 yards accurate

  3. mosburg 500 i love mine

  4. yes get one of those definitly

  5. I would personally stick with remington and mossberg shotguns.

  6. Get yourself a Mossberg 500, and use the Improved cylinder to shoot Skeet and the same choke to Harvest Deer with rifled slugs.* I use Remington Sluggers when shooting slugs.* You don't need a rifled barrel just get the smooth bore barrel that comes with the Shotgun.*

  7. Get a Remington Express 12ga combo with a rifled slug barrel.  You will get a regular barrel and a slug barrel. You can use this gun for everything deer-sized and smaller.  You can use the rifled barrel for deer and the standard barrel for everything else.  Do not shoot shotshells out of a rifled barrel.
