Hi im looking for a new pet! i want something a long the line of a guinea pig or a hamster or a rabbit or even a rat! No ferrets though.

I have about a 40Gal. tank im my basement and i was wondering if that would be okay for such an animal? Otherwise i have 1 or 2 small/medium sized cages specifically for hamsters/gerbils.

I am looking also for something with a longer lifespan- possibly 3-5 years. I want one thats social and wont bite or try to get away. I'm leaning towards something bigger like a bunny or Guinea pig because i think they would be easier to hold and play with. And i dont think they would be as fast as a hamster/gerbil/rat.

I dont know any of the types of these, so if you could give me some of your favorites that would be great.

  1. bunnys are alot better then quinea pigs.

quinea pigs always get away and are ver skidish so they arent great to hold.

    bunnys are awesome.

    i have one haha

  2. a rat is definitely the right pet for you.  I think they don't bite as much as a hamster or gerbil and they are really smart. I think you should get a rat. they have dwarf rats, they are half the size if your looking for something small. They are easy to maintain and they don't cost very much.

  3. DWARF HAMSTER! they are small, loving pets. You can get them a huge cage, connect tubes to other cages and play with them daily. They are  A great pet that usually dont bite, and are perfect. You clean they cage at least1 time every 2 weeks, and are small because they are DWARF hamsters. And they are very easy to breed and small, loving animals! p.s. if u decide to get one,i prefer you hold it first to make sure you want it.And if you ever want to pick it up, but a tube thats usually used to connect cages and stick it in the cage wait 'till it climbs in then hold it  to your hands but make sure your hands are cupped when you hold them to make sure that they feel safe. And dont stick fingers in their cage. They may bight because trying to protect their home.                    :)      ~natalie

  4. Guinea Pigs are more likely to bite than a bunny so get a bunny.

  5. Get a rat,They are really good animals and they are really fun to play with, they can balance on your sholders and there quite tame, depends where you get them from and how they've been treated =)

  6. i have had a rabbit and a guinea pig, and they were great. my guinea pig lived 3 or 4 years. my rabbit just died of a stroke this past winter after 9 years. maybe if you want something other than a rodent-type pet, you could get a minature dachshund. i have two, and they will love you to death. they are great with rabbits and guinea pigs, also.

  7. These small pets are great but a lot of work.

Hamsters tend to bite I had one and I would never be able to pick it up with out wearing gloves. They are better then rabbits because rabbits p**p a lot. They are high maintenance and keeping then in a tank will be hard. They at least need to be out in the open for a few hours they are rabbits. The best place for any pet would be a well air regulated crate. The best small pet would be a guinea pig because they are gentle and do need attention all animals need attention.

THEY ALL RUN so be careful when handling then sit on the floor and don't have any openings.

    Hope this helps Good luck

  8. how about a degus?

They are small and loving but you should get two because they are very affectionate and need to cuddle.
