Is there any truth to the statement that if you are a vegetarian and eat meat that the meat will make you physically ill? If someone tried being vegetarian for a few weeks and decided it wasn't for them, would they get sick if they decided to start eating meat or fish again?

  1. Yes. Absolutely. The reason being that as you stop poisoning your body with the growth hormones, steroids, pesticides and anti-biotics that flesh foods are laden with your body begins to cleanse. The more clean your body becomes the more sensitized you become to those same poisons. Begin to ingest that stuff again and you become ill because your body doesn't want those poisons and it will evacuate them -- sometimes explosively.

I hope that is a solid enough answer for you, it is accurate.

  2. When I was a teenager I was vegetarian for 3 years and then ate meat again.  I had terrible stomach pains but they eventually went away.  That was after years of not eating it though.  If you go for a few weeks without it, I doubt you'll get pains if you did eat it again.

  3. Solid answer - depends upon the individual.

Some say that they have problems - others claim no problems at all.

Your digestive system doesn't magically change when you become a vegetarian - you have the same one you had prior.  So it can process the food.

My suggestion - don't go out and order a 16oz steak after not eating meat for years - system not adapted to such.  It, in my opinion, will react like it does when you eat something that is uncommon for your system.

No scientific fact to back it up - just common sense.

  4. your body was forced to eat meat and is now accustomed to it like many things humans do wrong nowdays, but if you go to  a vegitarian diet you will be cutting out meat and if you later re-introduce it then your body will be shocked but able to eat it.

  5. I was a vegetarian for about three years and decided to try some free range chicken. I have no idea why...haha. That night I had terrible stomach pains and was throwing up. If you are deciding to eat meat again, take it slow and eat a little at a time. I decided to stick to vegetarianism but good luck!

  6. If you go back to eating meat withing a couple of weeks, you should be ok....I've been a vege for 6 or so yrs, so I would definately feel sick.  Anyone who has been a vegetarian for a long period of time, who decides to change their diet to include meat, should introduce small amounts slowly.  This will help the body to adjust.

    Good luck!

  7. I've been a vegetarian since January and last weekend I ate an entire cheeseburger.  I was so hungry that I completely forgot that I didn't eat meat.  It was so strange.  But, nothing happened to me.  I did have a bad headache the next day, but that could have been my crappy job.

  8. I had some sushi I was fine. Some peoples taste buds change not to like meat and the smell makes them sick.

  9. depends on how long you've been off meat and how much you eat.  proceed slowly so your body gets used to meat.  it takes a lot to digest meat compared to vegetables and fruits.
