  1. Yeah, sure it's compatible - for $500.  Personally, I can't justify spending that kind of scratch on a flash that would be no more useful [to me] than the SB-600 (which I use with my D80).  You wan't my advice......if you shoot with a D80, you probably don't need the SB-900.  So save yourself $300, buy an SB-600, then buy yourself another lens.  The 600 works very well on the D80.

(everyone will have to excuse my lack of interest in the "new" SB-900 - for $500, I'm so not impressed)

  2. it's compatible with the d1, and d300, so i imagine that it would be compatible with the Nikon d80, after all, they have the same hot shoe mounts. But, i have a question for you:

Why spend so much on a speedlight?

    you can use this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-SB-800-Speed...

The AF SB-800 it's around three hundred dollars, and a few cents more. It can be used wireless. So, you don't have to spend so much on the SB-900. You can use the extra money to buy a lens.

    You can go even cheaper:

    http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-SB-600-Speed...

This is the SB- 600, it's under two hundred dollars, also, it can be used wireless with a command trigger too. So, they are all nice flashes. You don't have to spend so much! but, if you want to, go ahead, i'm sure it's a good flash.
