Looking for a used car.?

I am looking for a used car, I only make $350/week. So I only have $350 to spend on the car, the complete price, not payments. I know it doesn't sound like much, but I am not rich and you should never buy a car that costs more than you make in a week. I see teenagers driving cars that cost more than $10,000, I can't believe those kids make that much money, it must be nice to be that young and make over $10,000/week.

  1. ah, go to a toy store. the kids you see are driving the family car, or have rich parents!!!

  2. Right now most cars will sell for more than that at a recycling facility. I sold a '92 Cutlass last week for $413.00 and it went to the crusher. It's going to be tough to find a road worthy car for the figure you mentioned. Not impossible but tough. I would suggest trying to find a small public auction in your area. You might find a large old gas guzzler.

  3. i just bought a used car yesturday and after driving to 15 car dealers and a few being 50 miles away i can say you arent going to find a good car for that price.  buying a cheap car now is going to cost more in the long run in repairs, trust me i have had two really cheap cars that i bought for under 2000 and they cost me about 1200 a year to keep them running. i would suggest going to a car dealership and make payments.  as for your rule i have heard it before except its dont by a car with payments higher then what you make in a week. i just got a toyota sequoia limited for 8000, 9,900 after the taxes and title ect. my payment are 215. and these cars start at 45,000. but i have seen cars on the side of the road for a 1000 or so. so good luck.

  4. Savings, dude. It's called savings.

You really assume people follow your week's salary rule? You're dreaming. I don't know anyone who follows that rule. You're in some pretty hefty denial if you SINCERELY believe that this is how most people purchase cars. I'm kind of baffled.

A $10,000 car is absolutely not an expensive car. And who are you to dictate how they got it, how rich they are, or if they should or shouldn't be driving the thing? That's a very cheap car which is easy to finance and just as easy to purchase with cash. I would never look at a kid driving a slightly used Corolla and think, "Wow, rich kid right there!"

For $350 you cannot afford anything that won't be many times more expensive in the near future for repairs. Tax alone might put you above your completely arbitrary limit. Get a good used bike and enjoy the exercise. Or do what smart people do and save up your money. At your level of income, you need to be saving, not spending on money pit clunkers.

    Edit:

I'm sorry, I can't take you seriously. You just told me a used Corolla is expensive. And I'll tell you from a lot of experience that people who buy cars don't follow your ridiculous week's salary rule. So far, three people have given me quizzical looks when I told them about this today. It's truly entertaining.

And you don't make $20,000 extra a year, you make $15,400 with four weeks of vacation. Maybe $16,800 if you don't take any sick days from your job at the fast food restaurant.

  5. I have found reliable cars at some of the small, out of the way used car lots for less than $350. They aren't pretty, but, they ran and drove until I could get something better. Last year, when the transmission was out of my truck, I found a '93 Dodge Spirit with a V-6 and automatic trans for $250. The only thing I had to do was replace a fuel line and it was good to go. I still have it, it still runs and drives fine, so, I keep it around for a spare vehicle.

You just have to know where to look.

    Good luck.

  6. sorry but its going to be hard to buy a bike for 350 bucks....and really saving some money will be the only way.. you see kids driving their parents cars
