October is quiet in Darwin most tourists leave in September before the build up before the wet season , so that time of year you will have plenty of choice. You don't say what sort of accomodation you want I would suggest have a look at wotif.com.au a week or 2 before you go and get somewhere from that for a couple of days while you look around.
