I am looking for an advocate who has knowledge pertaining to IDEA, FAPE, and special education with a focus on behavior problems. ODD, ADHD, depression, low self esteem. We are at a roadblock and I am no too sure which way to go on this. I feel like I am spinning wheels right now. Any suggestions?

  1. Here are a couple possible resources.

You just need to start calling and asking questions.

Document in writing all your requests to the school district. Call for a formal IEP (in writing)

Request and IEE (independent educational evaluation for a FBA).

    Find an advocate.

  2. Go to the Texas Education Agency's website.  There are 3 special projects by PRN (parent resource networks) they are set up by regions etc--contact them and they can help you out with finding an advocate as well as hook you up with local resources and support.  I wish you tons of luck from one special mom to another.

  3. Every state has a FREE parent advocacy agency. Call your state dept of education, the special ed department.

Ask them for info on the 'federally funded parent advocacy agency'.

  4. Would you be interested in a non-medication program that would address ODD, ADHD, depression, and low self esteem?
