Im a new mother of a 4 month old baby girl, and I'm coming off of Mat Leave in a few months -- I'm thinking about starting my own business or doing something from home so I don't have to leave her... Any ideas? I used to do daycare, and would rather not go that route again... But I'd really like to make some cash! Thanks, I'll pick best answer too...

  2. I'm in the same boat! Looking for something to bring in extra income. if you are crafty there is this great website called Etsy.com that is for selling crafts or vintage clothing. I'm not able to do it because of how small my apartment is but if i could i would. It would be so easy to go digging at Goodwill and find some great clothes and sell....Good Luck!

  3. Most of them are scam.. they ask for upfront payment and guarantee that you'll cover it in days.. but then they disappear..

elance and guru are good option you can try to explore others as well.

List and links of some genuine surveys can be found here: http://genuine-surveys.blogspot.com/ and links for genuine data entry jobs can be found here: http://genuine-dataentry.blogspot.com/ also list of some more free writing jobs can be found here: http://freewritingjobs.blogspot.com/ they are all free to sign-up and seems legitimate so far to me.

p.s. sign-up with a new email id, as you might receive a lot of junk mails no your email otherwise.

most of them will send your money by paypal

  4. Oh boy (I mean oh girl!). :)  Working from home and making some money doesn't necessarily allow you more time with your baby.  I was a sahm for almost 2 years before deciding to go back to work.  I went back to work because I was spending so much time on the computer and not with my son, I thought time with other kids would be a healthy change for him.  Now, I am pregnant again and also trying to decide what to do after my maternity leave is over.

As a sahm, I made extra income with an ebay store but it is a LOT of work to make money (not just break even) and the fees are becoming outrageous!  So I branched out and built my own website and I sell my products there.  I kept my ebay store just for advertising.  I created a "me" page on ebay that references my own site (not allowed to in the auctions).  If your website and your ebay name are the same, you are likely to have people go from one site to the other.  Additionally, there are many ways to advertise online for completely free (feeds, forums, groups, myspace, etc.).

So, all this to say, if you are good at something (I'm good at finding bargains then reselling them for profit and I'm good at making lampworked beads), then you can totally have a home business and make it work.

And, in answering your question, you've helped me answer mine.  I clearly want to do the home business again instead of working for someone else and putting two kids in daycare.  Thank you and very good luck to you!

  5. I, too, would love to do that.

I saw a mom post on a message board that she was cooking extra food so that working-moms could pick it up on their way home from work and provide their families with nutritious homemade meals. It sounds like a good idea, but it depends on your location. I'm also not certain if you would have to be checked by a health-department if you were that small scale, or if you would have to do anything to prevent yourself from being sued if someone got sick after eating your food.

I know that some "SAHM's" (stay at home moms) or "WAHM's" (work at home moms) sell cloth diapers. Some even make their own to sell. http://www.babycottonbottoms.com/about_u... and http://www.huggabuns.com/shop/  are both owned by SAHMs.

    Good luck!

  6. There are a lot of internet based companies you could work for, one in particular is called chacha.com, as a guide answering people's questions. The pay is based on how much time you put into it, and it is flexible enough to work around your schedule. Some stay at home mom's get paid for blogging and others for freelance writing.
