I'm currently using a 3rd gen iPod Nano but I want an upgrade and I DON'T want another iPod. So can anyone recommend something with similar functionality in a similar price range. Ideally, I want something that can be used with both windows and linux.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Hi,

    For you I'd look into a ZEN Creative. They are top quality (even though I own an iPod I am still brave enough to admit it) and are at a reasonable price. For an MP4 try looking at these models :

    Creative Zen 16GB MP3 and portable video. sorry but it gives no model name but look at (if you own the new argos catalogue) page 1453 number 9, cat number = 513/8056. 8000 tracks, 25 hrs battery life, voice recorder, 5hrs video playback, 2.5inch LCD Screen. In CM :

    H = 5.5cm W = 8.3cm D = 1.2cm. Downloads = DRM 10 (That includes windows media player) DRM basically means most download systems excpet iTunes. rechargeable = USB

    Creative Zen X-Fi 8GB. Features : 4000 tracks, 25hrs Battery life, 5hrs video playback, DRM 10, 16.7MP screen. 2.5inch screen, Music, Videos, Photos, FM Radio, Speaker and SD card slot (Upgradeable memory). In CM : H = 5.5cm W = 8.3cm D = 1.25cm. Rechargeable = USB. Argos catalogue = page 1457. Number 7. Cat Number 513/8180

    They are best two models by Zen I can think of.

  2. I know the sansa View and Sansa Fuze can be used with linux in MSC or MTP mode I cant remember which one. You can easily change it in settings though and then you just use it like a drag and drop device. They are great values and have a micro SDHC slot for more expansion which is currently at 8GB right now but I think there is a 16GB coming out in the future. It is also a good deal cheaper an 8GB Fuze for $100 and a 8GB view isn't much more expensive but has a bigger screen if you want to watch video's. I think you will be pleased with either one

    Hope I helped
