I was taken away from my birth mother when I was around age 7 or so. I was adopted when I was 10. I am interested in know my birth dad. I know my birth mother and I have been told that she has passed away. I only met her 3 times before I realized what a terrible person she was. The only thing she gave me about my birth dad was the last name. Does anyone know how to track down my birth father. I don't have a full name so how would I do this?? All I have is just a last name on him. Will I be able to do anything with so little information.

  1. hard to say if its not on your birth records and never been recorded anywhere.look into your mothers past and see if she had any friends who may know or recognize the name.if its an odd name google the name and see what you get if there are not to many of them at least you will have knocked it down a little

  2. I would have to agree. The place that gave you to your adoptive parents have your original birth certificate, that could definitly help you out. Best of luck to you.

  3. Yes you can.  If you have a last name and approximate age you can narrow it down.

You are entitled to alot more information than you have.  I hope you have applied to the State for Non Identifying information.

If you are lucky and live in one of the 8 States that have reinstated an adoptee's right to obtain their original birth certificate, I would say apply for a copy direct from Vital Statistics.    Your father's name may or may not be on your birth certificate.

  4. The person saying get your original birth certificate had a great idea, your dad may have signed it. Also, do you have any older relatives like a grandparent that you know of? They may remember him. Good luck.

  5. Can't your adoptive parents help you get a copy of your original birth certificate.  If they don't have the info, the agency certainly will.  Good luck.
