I am looking for my birth parents. I know the steps to take to try to find them but I have come up empty so I will try here. I would have been born Nov 15 1968 with a possible name of Minken in Bloomington, IL. If anyone knows any info please let me know. Thanks

  1. GOOOD LUCK TO YOU

  2. oh man im so so sorry. ;,,( why dont you go to bloomington il and  talk to the state and ask if you could get information on your birth parents. and once again you have my sypathies

  3. I wish I could help. Im sorry.

  4. Your best bet is to look in City Directories for the time period around when you were born under that surname and also spelling variations (ie Minkin). Also you should post at various genealogy sites under that surname looking for families who lived in IL. Good luck.

  5. Have you gotten your non-id info from the agency that handled your adoption?

Have you checked with them to see if she may have left anything in your file?

Have you checked with the adoption agency to see if the offer search services to locate her?

How about hiring a private searcher, or Kinsolving, or finding an Illinois based search angel?  Here is one place you can try:  http://www.vsn.org/

    Or here:  http://www.geocities.com/capitolhill/960...

If you have a name, try spending time in the library's microfilm room, going through old newspapers from that time.  You might find something...a birth announcement, an adoption decree, something.

Or see if you can find something in the vital records on your n-family name...birth, marriage, and death records are available on Ancestry.com.  Your local library or historical society library might have a free Ancestry account.

Try joining a genealogy message forum; chances are somebody there will have memberships to Ancestry, Classmates, etc. and they are always happy to do lookups for you.  Maybe your mother or one of her classmates is on Classmates.com and you can locate her that way?

Heck try the schools in the area and see if you can find her photo in the old yearbooks!  (Or again, the local library might have the old yearbooks on hand too.)

It takes detective work, and lots of time.

But genealogy people are a great resource, I'd recommend hooking up with an active genealogy forum and getting tips from them.  They are GREAT bloodhounds.

    Good luck.

Oh, and join us for the fight for adoptee rights in New Orleans in July!

  6. Do you have any information on them? Names, birth dates, when and where they went to high school? If you have this info you may try classmates.com it has worked for some of us. You put a post in the message center.

  7. First you need to contact the state court house where your adoption was finalized and get them to sent you a copy of the "adoption confirmation" which will include the case #, county and date and birth day.It cost $9.00(in Texas) and send them a copy of your drivers license. Then once you recieve that letter of information you go to the state of adoption court house with your drivers license and that letter you recieve and request to view your adoption case.As long as you are over 21 years old they can not deny you that information, you can also make copies they are $1.00 per page. They will ask you why you wish to see these documents.

Like I said this was in Texas, every state has different laws or rules but this should be basic procedure in most states. Also mine was a closed adoption but I was able to "open" these records. You could also try (adoptiondatabase.org).

I hope this helps you in your search.I know a lady who is 99% accurate in reuniting families her email is tuscon47@aol.com her name is Joanne and she is a search angel, try emailing her as well.

Best of luck in your search keep us posted. o:)

  8. good luck, i really wish i could help :(
