One of the best resources you can find is your local Home Depot or Lowe's Hardware.  

If you go there when you have some time just collect some and go to the patio furniture and begin browsing.  You can also get great info from your local library.

Then you have previewed the books and know what books were the most beneficial to you, for you to buy.  Check them out on half.com or craigslist.

I have found many a home project class on youtube and is a great resource!

Home Depot and Lowes have a huge amount of books on how to do these things yourself.  We just picked up one to do our outdoor kitchen.  My husband used books from these places to build our deck system in our last home and our sprinkler system as well.  You can find some places on line but not nearly as detailed as the books you will find at the big hardware stores.
