Looking for bridal shower suggestions (location/games/etc.)?

My girlfriend (getting married in October) lives in NC. However, all of her wedding participants live in Georgia & SC. The wedding will be in SC. Does anyone have any good bridal shower suggestions on location/games/etc.? She's moderately religious...no strippers or adult entertainment wanted.

  1. Well, I just recently went to two.  --

First of all you would never have a stripper at a bridal shower- that would be at a bachlorette party- they're different!

My friend's shower was in our Church's fellowship hall.  It went well.

I would suggest doing it on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.  Serving a small lunch. (Sandwiches, fuit, veggies, cake, punch, coffee).  Ask her mother and soon to be mother-in-law for a list of people to invite.  I would say close family and friends.

Games that are popular at showers are:  The dice game- where you roll doubles, 7 or 11 and if you do you get a prize.  (wrap the prizes, but then when the prizes are gone, have them unwrap them and then play for another five minutes with them stealing from eachother).  Toilet paper wedding dress.  Divide everyone up in to teams and give them 5 minutes to dress one of their teammates up as a bride with only T.P.- have the bride-to-be pick the best.  Another fun thing that we did was give everyone a bingo board but instead of BINGO write BRIDE.  Then have them fill in the squares with gifts they think the bride will get.  As she unwraps her gifts they cross off- as they get a bingo they get a prize.  You could also just do a door prize by putting a mark at the bottom of a plate.

You can do favors if you want, but they're not expected- or needed.  You could just make sure you have a lot of prizes for the dice game so almost everyone gets one or more.  Prizes can be almost anything!  I had a box of crunch 'n munch that some ladies were fighting over!!! Hope that helped a little.

  2. is it legal for you two to marry? considering your avatar is a girl and.. your talking about your gf? just have your party anywhere and make sure you get married where it's legal..

  3. I did a bridal shower for my best friend with the theme "everything you wish your mother had told you..."  we held it at my house and had an afternoon tea / high tea party.

All the gifts were centered around "items you can't live without".

I sent out recipe pages to each guest and - even if they couldn't attend - asked them to hand write their favourite recipe.  On the day I compiled this into a recipe folder and we gave that to the bride.  The Grooms mother had a special section with all of the groom's favourite recipes from his childhood.

We had a few games such as I provided a trivia sheet to the groom via email and asked him to answer it based on his favourite things, events from their past etc.  We then asked the Bride to complete the same quiz and laughed at some of the very different responses!

There was the peg game.  Everyone gets a peg when they arrive and every time someone says a key word (wedding, marriage, the groom's name, etc) and you catch them you can take obe of their pegs.  The person with the most pegs at the end wins.

  4. Choose a setting the is comfortable. Someones house, tea room, etc...

Remember this is a time to bring together people who may be strangers, but a simple formula is:

    1. Decide if you want a theme

    2. Then see what games fit into your theme

    a. Start shower with a Get to Know you game - then people can socialize

    b. Have one active game

    c. have one or two paper and pen (trivia - fun) games

Here is a list of over 40 shower games plus if you are involved in the bachelorette party to they have games for that.
