  1. buy some cheap plain canvases place them side by side and draw a unique design of your choice, paint in contrasting or accent colours to your room and hang slightly apart on walls or even random its up to you

it will be an original and a lot lot cheaper than a designer one

  2. Buy a nice calendar from Amazon or Barnes and Noble and frame the images by grouping them together.

  3. I have some contemporary wall art that is practically brand new that I'm trying to sell.  One is a large square shaped painting with a dark wood frame and "messy" geometric shapes, the main color is red.  Another is a black and white photograph of a tree, very sleek and modern. The last is a two dimensional dark wood wall hanging that has skinny branches carved into it.  I'm going to post it all on eBay in four weeks.  If you want it you can send me your email address and I will let you know when the sale is on, or we can make the transaction ourselves (but I'm assuming both of us would be more comfortable with eBay).

I'm going to sell all three pieces for $50 even though together they cost hundreds of dollars.

  4. Try Hobby Lobby!

  5. Check Ross, Big Lots, Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Burlington Coat Factory.  They often have close out items from the department stores that are unique and would have cost much more at regular retail.  Also, if you have HomeGoods stores they carry interesting items that can dress up your walls at inexpensive prices.

  6. They have some really cool, contemporary wall hangings at cb2.com, many for $100 or less, and they look like they cost a lot more than that. Go to their wall decor section under decorate. I especially like the Marimekko canvas wall hangings - plus they're machine washable.

  7. buy blank canvases or the stretcher bars for canvas from an art store, and stretch patterned fabric on it.  You can do several small ones on one wall to make a very cool look.
