  1. I had one in the NICU too, I know the waiting is maddening. Anyway, keeping a journal is cheap and will be wonderful to look back on, to see how far the baby has come. I am still amazed when I go back and read the journal I kept for my (now)11 year old!

Also, a cross stitch is nice. You can find in expensive ornament kits (or even patterns online) and stitch baby's first Christmas ornament now.

Best wishes to you and congrats!

  2. If you get frustrated with knitting or crocheting larger pieces. dress a Doll. Make a skirt, top, hat,  scarf, shoes and even a blanket for the Doll. All these things can be made

from leftover yarn. Lots of fun and so inexpensive.

Your Baby Girl will love these for years.

Hope you can take your Baby Home soon.

  3. can you crochet or knit? a knit or crochet afghan, the baby a whole line of things for when it gets cold, you a sweater. keep a journal about the baby with pictures if possible. good luck and congrats on the baby.

  4. Try Paper Quilling , it's not that difficult to learn and fun ;)))) Good Luck

  5. How about making some greeting cards?  If you have not sent out any birth announcements, you coule create your own. Or make some thank you cards, etc.  Start with some basic cardstock-- pack of 50 8.5X11-inch sheets for $4.00 or less will make a lot of cards.  Typical card is 4.25X5.5 inches and fits an A2 envelope which WalMart sells in a pack for a few dollars.  You could rubber stamp on them (some rubber stamps for $1), collage, print on your computer printer.

Knitting or crocheting a blanket or cap and booties set will be both useful and could be a keepsake for your baby.

    Best wishes.

  6. I'd probably go for counted cross stitch for the time being.  They have all kinds of things to do at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, & Walmart: bibs, burping cloths, and all kinds of baby related things that you can put your baby's date of birth on if you want, or (Momma's girl, I love grandma, etc.).

When you get home and have a few minutes for a craft break:

I'd try decoupage.  It's really easy, plus decoupage can go on about any thing solid.

I've seen those great small rocking chairs or smaller size furniture for little ones and they're super.  Also, I've gone to Costco and gotten that stack of like ten different sized nesting boxes and decoupaged them with Victorian paper cutouts or whatever else you want to cut out, and used the boxes as great gift boxes (no need to wrap them, they look nice enough by themselves).

Also, the wooden frames from Hobby Lobby or Michael's can be decoupaged to make a cute baby frame.  If you're not keen on cutting or clipping paper you can go to the scrapbooking aisle and buy one of the packages that has a bunch of related stuff in it (ready to place on frame). Example: baby girl /boy stuff, vacation, graduation, valentine's, birthday, etc.

Just get some ModgePodge (I think that's what it's still called - kind of a thin glue compound) and one of those sponge end brushes and go to town. (And maybe a spray sealant at the end to keep it in great shape over the years.)

    Hope that helps.

    Blessings ~ JoDe
