Besides Versailles and the Loire Valley, are there any neat trips that you can recommend to take for a day from Paris?

  1. There is a day trip ticket available for use on all buses/métros/RER trains in Paris (RER is short for Réseau Régional Exprèss) called the "carte Mobilis".

It's an unlimited ticket that can be used freely depending on how many zones you buy. This will save you money if you want to visit places up to 45 to 50km from Paris.

To the East of Paris you also have the Château of Vaux-le-Vicomte and also the Medivael town of Provins.

To the south you have France Miniature and the Val d'Essonne, including the Château de Dannemois - an area where the impressionists painted and also close to where Claude François and Yannick Noah lived at one time. To the south west the Vallée de Chevreuse and to the north west the Parc Natural du Véxin which includes Giverny and Monets house.

  3. Two other châteaux you might consider visiting, and not nearly as far away as those in the Loire Valley, are Fontainebleau and Chantilly. The former is roughly an hour southeast of Paris, and the latter about an hour away as well, but north of Paris.

  4. Here is links for the only company that takes care of the train system in France. You'll find helpful infos
