Question:

Looking for flower girl dresses for medieval wedding?

Hello, I'm planning to have a medieval style wedding next October, 2009. This will be my dress: http://www.rivendellbridal.com/eowynstyle.html

I'm trying to find a nice looking flower girl dress that matches the theme, but I've only found a couple online that all look pretty stupid. Has anyone had a medieval style wedding and found a nice flower girl dress, or can help me find one? Thanks.

  1. Rivendell bridal are beautiful! A few friends have gone through them and there have been nothing but compliments! Do you want their dresses to match your gown? They are all custom made so maybe they could create something similar and in the same fabric. I would email them and check it out.

My gothic victorian wedding dress is from http://www.galleryserpentine.com.au and they are going to custom make my flowergirl dresses in the same fabric.

http://www.thedarkangel.com have a few styles of dresses in dark purple.

http://www.renstore.com/ is also good for more traditional medieval renaissance styles

Otherwise there is ebay or looking for patterns at a sewing store

    Goodluck!

  2. Hi.  I couldn't find much under medieval gowns, so I used Google and searched under "renaissance."

Here is one site, and the dresses are cute:

    The ones:

    ~ Little Tiza

    ~ Little Anna

    ~ Little Emmy

    ~ Little Empress

are really cute, and you can custom order different colors.  Hope this helps!

    PS....I like your gown!

  3. You will have to have one made.  The reason is there were no flower girls in medieval weddings, nor attendants really!  You were married 'at court' so there was many witnesses and Lord or King gave his approval for marriage.

    Congratulations!

  4. Hi.  You might want to check out Renaissance Magazine.  It's a great source for costumes and other items that can help you recreate the medieval and renaissance eras.  They even have an Annual Wedding Issue.  (Issue 54 was the 2007 Wedding Issue, Issue 61 was 2008's.)  Both are available as back issues at their web site:  http://www.renaissancemagazine.com/backi...

I'm sure the Wedding Issue will be full of ads from costumers who are ready, willing, and able to help make your medieval wedding dream a reality.  Good luck!

  5. Luckily, Halloween is right around the corner. Get Thee to Ye Olde Costume Shoppe!! They almost always have little girl dresses/costumes that might work. I'd check that out first - you only have about a month until things REALLY gear up. Some places are already selling Halloween stuff, so get to your nearest stores and have a gander.

Failing that, this site has a few things of interest:

    Good luck!

The person below is just wrong. Most weddings in Medieval times were out in the country, and all the peasants would gather and celebrate and play games. Only court people could be expected to marry in court. Unless there was a war going on or something.

  6. Most of the ones you will find are very expensive because they aim to be authentic.  My suggestion is that you peruse McCalls and Simplicity patterns and find something you like and then have someone sew the dresses for you.  I know I've seen patterns for girls in the style that you are doing in the costume section.  You just vary the fabrics. You can also handsew the dresses yourself if you don't have a machine. It doesn't take that long when you are sacked out in front of a TV and just doing mindless backstitching.   This style is very forgiving with fit.

I'm making my own dress by combining several patterns for a more formal Tudor look.   However, as you can see by the link below, it's a totally different 'medieval' style than you are seeking.

  7. If you know anyone who can sew, Simplicity has some neat patterns.  They intend them as Halloween costumes, but if you use some nice fabric they would work out pretty well for you.
