might not be exactly what your looking for but there's a book out there called "one summer" also "when push comes to shove" and other books about rugby league not sure if they will be what your looking for but well worth a read anyway

The legendary comentator Eddie Waring used to publish books every year about the league season. They were very informative. Unfortuntely you only see them in charity shops or second hand bookshops. Books about league were quite rare in those days and still are apart from players autobiographies and the odd club history books that are published. Books from the 1960's are out of print now.
