Looking for great preschool sites....

Question

My son is 2 1/2 and I wanted to start working with him on learning shapes, colors, numbers, letters, etc. I was looking for sites that would help give me ideas for activities to help learn these things. Do you know of anything that could help me? Thanks!

I am a former Preschool teacher, and also teach an Art Camp for kids in the summer.  I have several teacher sites I have marked for different occasions, see if any of these are right for you.  

Also, do not underestimate the value of just talking with your child and paying attention to what they are saying and interested in.  You can't believe the difference a Mom who is paying attention makes.  Talk to your son as you go through your day with him- just ordinary things, like "You're wearing blue pants today", "this apple is red, and round like a circle", "we're turning onto Oak Street- our house is on Oak Street.  Can you see our house?"  

Talk about things in in proper terms, such as "That was Mrs. Jones on the phone."  Don't say "That was Johnny's Mommy on the phone."  Your son will learn that Johnny has a last name, it is Jones.  Say "We're going to Mel's Diner for supper" Don't say "We're going to the restaurant with the red chairs for supper".  Eventually, he'll make the connection.  Talking about things by their real names helps him to know his environment and be able to talk to people so they can understand him.

A big thing in Preschool is self sufficiency.  Eventually it will be buttoning and zipping, tying shoes, etc.  For now, you can work on having him being able to do as much for himself as he can.  Purchase clothing that will make him be able to be self sufficient- velcro shoes, pants with elastic waists, pull on shirts, containers for toys he can open and close by himself, etc. He can feel proud and responsible for himself.
