Looking for help with stopping my dog from being put down?

My dog got loose one day and chased another dog an ran after him into his house. Well the owner of the other dog got a couple scratches from trying to split the 2 dogs up. We had to go to court and now they want me to have my dog put down or in a rescue shelter by the 28th. Any ideals on a no kill shelter in Cincinnati? My dog is a pit-bull mix, but he is in no way vicious..Anybody know of any way I can stop my dog from being pit down?

  1. I am sorry but your dog should have been on a chain or leash. And someone must have thought your dog was vicious or dangerous or they would have never wanted him/her put down. Also if this was first offense for dog then it isn't legal to be put down unless these so called scratches were bites instead.

  2. This does not make sense.  Why would the court want you to surrender your dog to a shelter, where he could be adopted by someone else who could get bitten -or- be euthanized?    If they feel he is a dangerous dog that merits being put down--why pass that problem on to somebody else?

  3. That's so sad, I really am very sorry to hear of this. I would suggest that you contact your local ACO and shelter to see if there are any programs available for the dog, like temperament screenings. Things like that. I have heard of this happening to other people and know that they went to a kind of evaluation program to prove their dog wasn't vicious.

Good luck to you and your dog.

  4. Go online and search for a no kill shelter thats ANYWHERE within driving distance to Cincinnati.  Pay one of your friends to go adopt him and get him back!!! Just don't let your neighbors know.

  5. www.nokillnetwork.org/d/Ohio

check these out. Hope it works for you

    Also check out pittiesplace.com.

Don't just check them out on line call them. Most places that cant help will give phone numbers to organizations who can. Good luck

  6. I am very sorry to hear that. You could check with your local humane society or pd.

  7. Here are two links to find shelters near you

    http://www.petfinder.com/

    http://www.petharbor.com/

Are you sure it was only a couple of scratches? If you do get your dog back, please take him to obedience training and get help from an experienced trainer in socializing him so he doesn't attack other dogs.

  8.   Paying one of your friends to go adopt him and then giving him back to you is not only unethical, but sounds a little illegal also. There are lots of rescue groups out there who will be able to take the dog and find it a good home. Good luck!!

  9. I would go and talk to the owner who got the scratches.  Tell him you will pay for any medical treatment he received and your dog will be on a leash at all times.  I would tell you that your dog is your family and you really don't want to lose him.  If that doesn't work, go to http://www.petfinder.com and look at shelters in your area.  Call the shelters and ask if they are non-kill shelters or not.  If they are a non-kill shelter, ask if they have room for your dog.  I wish the best to you and hopefully you can keep your dog
